You've purchased your first electric bike, and now you've received a box with a manual, some tech-looking tools, and a charger. Toss the box in the back of your car and you'll set out with awe and excitement for your upcoming outdoor adventure.

But what about the power cable? What is its importance to your electric bike and how can you maximize the health of your bike with this device? Let's break down the most common questions we receive about e-bike chargers.

How to charge with a power cord

Charging your e-bike is as easy as plugging in your laptop. Basically, the charger comes in three parts.

Charger plug-in: This part connects to the charging box and the outlet.

Charging case: The charging case protects and cools the electronics used to transfer power to the battery.

Charging adapter: The adapter plugs into the charging port on the battery, either on or off the bike.

Please insert the plug into the wall socket and the adapter into the battery. You can check to see if it is fully charged by checking the bike's display or the indicator light on the charger.

How often to charge

While you can charge your e-bike as often as you like, that doesn't always mean you should. Consider a cell phone - do you charge your phone every time you call? Probably not.

I know it may sound random, but you should charge your bike as often as possible. If you ride your bike a lot, you may need to charge your battery more often. If you travel occasionally, then you may want to keep the battery at about 80%. If you are storing your battery for a long time, you will need to keep it between 40 - 80%.

Using a different power connector?

The power connector may vary depending on the make and model of your e-bike. Changing components may damage your battery and the charger you are using.

Honestly, the best thing you can do for your battery is to charge your bike with the charger you received with your purchase. If you need to charge quickly, we recommend that you bring a backpack or put a saddlebag on the rear rack to store the charger. That way you don't need to rely on another charger.

Electric bike power cords in general are not as complicated as some people might think. Even the least tech-savvy people are capable of charging their bikes. That said, understanding how to use and utilize your charger and battery will further enhance your e-bike experience.
