Structural Components of E-bike Power Connectors

The power connector is a component that electrical engineers often come into contact with. Its role is simple: to block or isolate between circuits, bridging the communication and allowing the current to flow so that the electric vehicle can start running.

The form and structure of the power connector varies widely, and it is composed of four basic structural components: the contact, the shell (depending on the variety), the insulating parts, and the accessories.

First, the contact parts

It is the core component of the connector, to complete the electrical connection function. Generally by the positive contact parts and negative contact parts to form a contact pair, through the plug of the cathode contact parts to complete the electrical connection. Positive contact is a rigid part, its shape is cylindrical, square or flat.

The negative contact is the jack, the key component of the contact pair, which relies on the elastic structure of the plug in the insertion of the elastic deformation and elastic force and the positive contact to form a close contact to complete the connection.

Second, the shell

Also known as the shell, is the outer cover of the power cable, it provides mechanical protection for the internal insulating mounting plate and pins, and provides alignment to the plug and socket insertion, and then the connector is fixed to the device.

Third, the insulator

Insulator is also often referred to as the power connector base or mounting plate (pins), its role is to make the contacts in accordance with the required location and spacing arrangement, and to ensure the insulation properties between the contacts and between the contacts and the shell. Good insulation properties, voltage resistance and easy processing is the basic requirement for the selection of insulating materials processed into the insulator.

Accessories are divided into structural accessories and installation accessories. Structural accessories such as snap rings, positioning keys, positioning pins, guide pins, coupling rings, cable clamps, sealing rings, gaskets, etc. Installation accessories such as screws, nuts, screws, spring rings, etc. Accessories are mostly standard and common parts. It is these four basic structural parts that enable the charging cable to act as a bridge and operate stably.
