Mechanical performance

As far as the connection function is concerned, the insertion force and pull-out force is an important mechanical property. Insertion force is further divided into insertion force and extraction force, the requirements of the two are different. From the point of view of ease of use, the insertion force should be small and the separation force should be large. This is related to the sliding friction coefficient of the contact area and the dimensional accuracy of the contact arrangement.

The main electrical properties of the connector including contact resistance, insulation resistance and electrical strength.

Contact resistance, high-quality electrical connectors should have a low and stable contact resistance.

Insulation resistance is a measure of the electrical connector contact parts and contact parts and insulation performance between the shell indicators.

Electrical strength is characterized by the ability to withstand the rated test voltage between the connector contacts or between the contacts and the shell.

Environmental performance

Common environmental performance includes temperature resistance, moisture resistance, vibration resistance and impact resistance. 

Temperature resistance, as the connector works, the current generates heat at the contact point, resulting in a rise in temperature, so it is generally accepted that the operating temperature should be equal to the sum of the ambient temperature and the temperature rise at the contact point. In some specifications, the maximum temperature rise allowed for the connector at the rated operating current is specified. 

High-quality connectors should be able to maintain proper operation under test conditions of constant humidity and high temperatures.

Test conditions are 90% to 95% relative humidity and +40±20°C. High quality connectors should be able to maintain proper operation even under continuous wet and hot test conditions.

Vibration and shock resistance, particularly important in special applications such as aviation and aerospace, rail and road transport, are important indicators of the robustness of the electrical connector's mechanical construction and electrical contact reliability.
